The Custodian will be required to follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules and should have the required skills and abilities to perform defined service tasks.
Incumbents in this classification receive assignments directly from the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.
The hours for this position will mainly be 11 am - 8 pm, Monday thru Friday, limited flexibility.
2.
Cleans and sanitizes lavatory, fixtures, sinks, floors, and walls in City park restrooms as well as various City managed facilities; 3.
Works independently or cooperatively as a member of a team to complete work on schedule and according to quality control standards set by the Facilities Manager; 4.
Follows instructions regarding materials, equipment, and training to ensure a safe working environment for self and other members of the immediate work unit; 5.
Opens and/or locks City facilities regularly; 6.
Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors by hand or machine; 7.
Washes windows, screens, sills, mirrors, glass, woodwork, doors, walls and ceilings; 8.
Opens City skate park and Cemetery before 7 a.
m.
as part of daily rounds; 9.
Make daily written and verbal reports to the Facilities Manager, including damages, vandalism, or malfunctions in appointed areas; 10.
Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up picnic and other areas; 11.
Maintains the cleanliness and fully operational status of the Civic Center kitchen to ensure a sanitary environment; including appliances, refrigerators/freezers, cabinets, and counter space; 12.
Prepares daily, monthly, and annual reports as required by the immediate supervisor; 13.
Maintain a positive and professional attitude; 14.
Required to attend training and/or continuing education as assigned by the Facilities Manager; 14.
Participates in the implementation of City-Wide special events; 15.
May perform light building maintenance at times including pressure washing, light bulb changes, and HVAC filter changes when needed, and assist technical crews with routine maintenance.
16.
Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.
17.
Assist other Divisions as necessary.

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain a professional effective working relationship with departmental personnel, all levels of employees, City officials, other government agencies, and the general public; Average writing and verbal communication skills are required; Basic computer skills are necessary, not limited to e-mail management, work order processing, and smartphone/tablet proficiency; General working knowledge of the principles, practices, and materials used in custodial maintenance; Ability to work rotating shifts including weekend duty and emergency call-outs; Ability to safely operate equipment and perform job-related tasks to ensure a safe environment for co-workers, residents, and visitors; Work effectively under pressure and with deadlines, and may be subject to constant interruptions.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
1.
High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma; 2.
Two (2) years of experience in facility setup, troubleshooting, and custodial best management practices.
(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
) LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
1.
Valid Florida Driver's License; 2.
Incumbents of this position are required to pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-700 within 30 days of employment, the ICS-100 within 60 days of employment, and a Work Zone Safety Certification within 6 months of employment; 3.
ISSA Certification is desirable; 4.
Must complete and Maintain CJIS Certification.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing ladders, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, and making continuous hand/arm movements.
Sufficient vision and hearing to safely and accurately perform essential functions (with or without correction) is required.
Works at heights (up to 20 feet).
May work in strong odors.
May also require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects and materials weighting (20-50lbs).
Must be available to work night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
On night, weekend, or holiday shifts as assigned, may be required to work alone.
On such assignments, within established policies and procedures, incumbents of this class are expected to work with considerable initiative and independent judgment in identifying and taking corrective action on the more routine problems.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works indoors and outside with exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat, sun, cold, wind, rain, storms, etc.
Exposure to mosquitoes, flies, bees and other pests is also common.
Exposure to normal traffic hazards.
Occasional exposure to fumes from automotive exhaust, paints, chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers.
